Bantha Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 (edited) So, another game done. Vs Orc's.. 250 inducements became one apo and one wiz. The luck really came and went in this game, could really have been an easy 2-1 and an easy 1-2. But it was a hard though game ended 1-1. I had some luck to, but not enough. Ohh, Bloodlust: ~27% of the rolls = a hungry vamp... Next stop Chaos, including str6 claw mb CW. One vamp mng so less inducements this time. Jimmy C Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Well I lost again. But on the positive side I suffered no permanent injuries and got a nice 21spp hall. It also was very close to a 2-2 draw, but those sneaky rats managed some magic to steal the ball and go 3-1 up at the bell. I must say I’m loving the ssc format where wins/losses don’t matter. I’ve managed to average about 17spp per match so far and no permanent injuries at all. Although at some stage I will really have to start winning, especially once i start OCC proper! :P
Jimmy C Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Regarding my offense, i've only managed to get 3 TD from 4 matches, so figure i'm probably doing something wrong. My general tactic is to pass it to a Vamp up around center LOS and screen him. Then i just try and bash forward, switching flanks to the weak side (where there is one). This generally means its around turn 4 or later before i am close enough to score. Is this how Vamp coaches normally play it, or is it better to just stack one side on setup and then rush up a flank, hoping for a turn 2 or 3 score? I am in 2 minds, because on one hand it means my opponent has less time to respond. But on the other hand, my Thrall attrition rate can see me down in players by mid/late half.
crimsonsun Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 you are really causing some damage out there at the moment, you proper busted my team up in our game. Sorry to here you lost to those Rats, I will take vengeance on your behalf, have more than a decades worth of grudges to take out on his team I cant offer help with vampire offence, its the part I struggle with as well.
Kjelstad Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I like to look at everyone's team, Altashheth. Gives me an idea of what they are doing and what I can do differently. Did you plan on continuing with those Jimmy? rats are something I like to hit as much as I can unless I can score. to score early and often I like to blitz a few players up the sideline & leave a vamp in position to score in 2. It gives them something to think about. If I get marked with 2 or less players I try to score. Gaze one, blitz one and then a hand off and a pass. if they over commit I still hand off to the middle vamp and then run to the other side of the pitch. I can suggest a game to watch where that worked. It will also show why you need kick. season14, div 5c week2. I thought things were going to go well after that, instead I lost my second game in week 3. hell of a lucky game though. probably why I remember it. That ag 5 can throw quit a ways. Once you get blodge in SSC you are hard to stop. My first blodger came out of SSC with 51 SPP and on defense I will blitz the ball every time if it is in range. First thing, not last. I don't bother with the rest of my blocks if I knock it out, I go pick it up. I finished +20 and +14 my first two seasons. Not so good this season... Crimson, you were going to step on rats no matter what. Awards 3 6 13 2 15 2 2
Jimmy C Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Thanks for the tips and I will check out your match when I have time (I need to see some replays of good Vamp coaches to pick up on tactics). I am planning to continue this team into the OCC proper, as I really like Vamp teams and how they are so different from usual gamestyle. I figure that once my Vamps reach level 3, things should (hopefully) start getting a bit easier. At the moment I struggle with the lack of core skills (block/dodge).
Altashheth Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 It is a good plan to check out other vamp teams... I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier.... I've a suggestion for a thread for a more experienced vamp coach, I'd do it but I'm no where near experienced enought.... A sort of general guide of what to look for against each race. I've noticed I play very differently against certain teams, for example, against the dark elves I was up in his face the whole game (he has no blitzers or I may have reconsidered) against the undead I was a lot more stand offish Just an idea :)
Verbal_HM Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I mostly bank on using Hypno to break peoples cages for the win, hence the 6 vamps
Bantha Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Hmm, checking out other Vamps teams only make me jealous.. so no need for that. But I never have a plan for my game only who I would like to score, but thats a wish and nothing more. Because the game changes as the sand dunes on the desert, just faster. But I have a basic start setup of course, but beyond that nothing really. It all depends on all those factors, thralls out, vamps out, defenders out, defenders misplacement. Who will gain on a fast score and who will not. Have a plan, that supports your playstyle your game. So think of your strength and your weakness when picking skills and planning lvlup. Poor words but a good thought, learn from your losses and go from there. Nice to see all the talking in this once quite "dead" thread Tata! B) /B Awards 5 10 2 5 3 2 2

I don't have it but no strippers in my div yet I will mark str3 players so that they have to try a dodge or use two assists to hit me. Saurus I will mark with thalls so they cant move. Marked a Break tackle/tackle one today that cost me a TD on my turn 8 though. I should have marked his assist. Still scored two in his half for a 2-0 win today though. cant stop a 7-5-5-8 blodger from getting to your skinks. I really need some kick though and the big guys got all the spp today. But I never have a plan for my game only who I would like to score, but thats a wish and nothing more. Because the game changes as the sand dunes on the desert, just faster. I had designs on who I wanted to score today but did not set up. I could not resist taking down some skinks and was not screened for the score. They easily got to my player in position and I had to cut over. I was just lucky he didn't score on my half Have a plan, that supports your playstyle your game. Verbal_HM Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Heroic draw from my Vamps, every thrall I bit went BH, failed every one of my 5 Ko rolls, got depitch around T13, Blodge Vamp picked up a niggle, thank nuffle for rain...
Doomy77 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I think that might be the first full clearance I've managed in OCC. Last time I played as Norse vs Vamps, my opponent stopped standing guys up around T13... Awards 4
Verbal_HM Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 If I had any guys left to stand up I might have tried that.... 34min game is seriously speedy
Doomy77 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Yeah, I thought it was just the beer, but it actually was fast. Awards 4
Altashheth Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Well, Cruor Imbibo II have their 4th draw..... Despite sacking the human ball carriers 3 times in their drive and knocking the ball into the crowd we couldn't stop a turn 8 touch down and never got a sniff of the ball.... 2nd half turned into a meat grinder with my thralls really struggling to pick up the ball but the humans kept getting KOed which eventually left a vamp open to score on the 16th turn.... 4 games played.... 4 1-1 draws.... I need help with my offence

Doomy77 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I watched it. You should too. 6C I think? He would have won if he had any player left. That's a big if. Scoring TDs usually requires having people on the pitch. Also, I had a fair chance of making it 2-1. Awards 4
Verbal_HM Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 failing all 5 KO rols while your sodding opponet passes 4 for 4, that's a big if too honey, you son of a bitch
Doomy77 Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Your players are smart. They knew that if they got up I'd just punch their teeth in. Awards 4
Verbal_HM Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 +ag Vamp broke his neck on a 1,1 dodge T7 trying to save the game, Kick/Wrestle thrall killed himself ona suicide dodge T16 trying to save the game, game was beyound saving is all I can conclude

I can lose any other player and not care too much. Well losing a kicker in week one hurt but only because I already had a dead Vamp and dead rookie. The good news is my MA/AG stat adjusted thrall got MVP today so I have a kicker again. No, not that type of adjustments. Awards 3 6 13 2 15 2 2

No, not that type of adjustments. Why would you give a +AG/+MA Thrall Kick? Surely he is suited to handling the ball? Or do you already have another Thrall ball handler?
