The Greensuits have been busy recently evaluating all of the options and eventualities of introducing Redraft to the OCC. We would like to take this opportunity to get all of your opinions on this: Do you want to play with Redraft or not? (Please note that this poll is still only advisory, not binding)

Before you reply to the poll of this post, please take your time to read the text below. It describes the way we would implement Redraft and attempts to answer all of the most important questions. If you have any further questions or comments, you can post them in this thread. Then, when you have made up your mind, please cast your vote in the poll.

OCC Redraft FAQ

1) When would the Redraft occur?

The OCC would implement the Redraft at the end of each season. This means that when all matches of match day 9 have been played and the Admins have officially "ended" the season, each team would be marked for redrafting and would receive its redraft budget for the coming season.

A side effect of this is that from now on teams need to remain in the divisions until the admins have officially pushed the "End season" button. If you leave your division early, you will not be able to get into the next season (without causing extra admin work and making the admins very angry).

2) How high is the Redraft budget?

At the end of each season, each team receives a budget for redrafting equal to: 1,000,000 plus your leftover treasury plus bonus budget based on your performance last season (40,000 per win, 30,000 per draw, 20,000 per loss). The budget for redrafting will be capped at 1,700,000.

3) And what do I spend the Redraft budget on?

Firstly, you need to rehire your players. Each player from the previous season can be rehired for their "team value" plus 20,000 per season that they have played for your team. In addition, you also need to rehire all your coaching staff (apo, cheerleaders etc.) and rerolls during the Redraft process. The coaching staff and rerolls do NOT get more expensive with each season.

4) And what about this "temporary retirement" I've heard about? How is that linked to Redraft?

During the season, if one of your players receives a grave injury during a match, you are presented with the option of "temporary retirement" for this player (which needs to be used immediately, before you do anything else with the team). If you use that option, this player is no longer available for the rest of the season, but he still takes up a spot in your roster and counts towards the number of positionals of the type. After the season, when you redraft the team, the "temporarily retired" player will roll a die, and on a 4+, he "heals" one permanent injury. You will be able to redraft this player normally as any other player in your team.

5) What happens if I can't/don't spend all my Redraft budget?

Once the Redraft process for your team is complete, your treasury will be set to 0 (zero) for the start of the next season. You will not be able to take "leftover" Redraft budget into the new season.

6) If the OCC implements Redraft, when do we start?

If we decide to implement Redraft in the OCC, we would start it at the end of Season 8 (so at the end of Season 8, your Redraft budget would be calculated for the first time, and you would have to complete the Redraft process before joining for Season 9).

So players who already have played 8 seasons redraft with the same tax as players who are 1 season old?

imo that’s the worst possible solution to the redraft question since it allows old teams to have players the newer teams never will be able to get.

I think the only real and fair solution is to start over so number of seasons played equals number of redraft tax added.

I neither prefer redraft or not, but if it is implemented we have to make new teams.

Allowing 8 season teams a redraft just unbalances the whole thing.

So if the options are no redraft vs redraft with current teams, I am team no redraft.

Additionaly, with BB3 updating to BB2025 rules some time next year keeping it as is until then might be the best as everyone will probably have to make new teams then anyway.

Care to elaborate?

I’m the kind of person who enjoys building a team long-term. I get attached to my players and keep them until someone basically kills them.
With redraft, based on my current experience (Big Crunch redraft limit 1600), we usually keep around 5-6 old players, and the rest are all rookies (sometimes you even give up a level 1 player just to save money and bring in a new level 1).
Furthermore, I believe that developing players over a league that lasts 8-9 rounds (assuming there's a redraft every season) is too short for some serious new rookie plyr upgrade to rotate with an existing....
In short, I prefer limiting the budget to maintain league balance, rather than massacring the team through redraft.
Of course, maybe the whole system is great, but for now, I don’t like it.

Fair enough, I was interested in the reasoning. Thank you.

Yeah that was my point in the discord. 9 games is just not enough time to build up a player that would be worth re-signing...except a player that score easily and alot. And then only if you concentrate on force feeding that player TDs.

IMO, at the least, you need the redraft to occur every 2 seasons here...that would at least be 18 games. Then you can build up some rookie players to start replacing those you have to cut and not re-sign.

If u redraft every 2-3 seasons to have all some sense , why then just have a salary cup?

probably if we started with 1000 tv a league and a redraft, it all have a logic, but with a so experienced teams, hm, hm

I see many comments about implementing redraft or not, so is this decision already taken?
And if so how do I retire my wolf which has just been maimed in the hope he will be healed at the end of the season 7?
He will be MNG in the next game, do I have to do something now or when he will be fit for playing again (that is in MD9) or what?
Can he stay retired for the whole of season 7 so to be ready for redraft on season 8?
Or there is no way to retire him until redraft is in place (if ever?).
Sorry if this is not the right thread where to put this question, in case just let me know where do I have to put it.

since redraft arenT' implemented this season you cannot put the wolf on the injured reserve list

@Silfuin you must put a player on temporarily injured list immediately after the game that he was hurt if you wait a game you cannot put him on the list and he cannot roll for trying to heal at the redraft. a player that you temporarely retire is unavailable for the rest of the season but still count in your roster so you cannot hire a other wolf if you already have a other one on your lineup . player that are niggle dont need to be put on injured reserve list every niggle injury are roll to see if they get rid of them or not

Bugger, that's harsh.

So I take it that injured player will be put in the injured list only if they are injured close to the redraft.

There's no way a necro team can function with only one wolf for a prolonged time in the hope (not guaranteed) to heal the injured one.

It seems an option not many teams will take.

No decision has been made yet (which you can infer from my very carefully worded posts :D)

Now, a mild warning. It is actually possible to put a player in temporary retirement already. Not something I recommend though, as they'd never return unless there is a redraft (which there isn't currently).

There is a player on temporary retirement atm, which is being used as a test. Not a planned test, mind. Just something we noticed and asked the coach in question if he was willing to do.

Every league I know of uses some form of redraft, this was the only one that didn't. IMO that made this unique and different, not inherently better or worse, but having a kind of BB that wasn't available anywhere else which is cool. It would be ashame to see the OCC become like every other league. But judging by the fact the pro-redraft option is winning I fear this is just a forlorn fart in the wind of popular support... /shrug

The amount of votes is so low that it currently doesn't say anything really.

21 out of 60 coaches have voted, and it's close.

I am personally leaning towards wait and see what 2025 rules bring and take it from there.

Redraft opens up some interesting player records though, most games played would be an interesting stat.

I do wish we reasonably could track player stats again.

This is a very valid argument, keeping OCC redraft free would make it somewhat unique, but we also have to admit that the current rules of the game were designed (poorly) with redraft in mind to curb the stat freak players. With a no redraft format it would be favouring bash, regen, and high armour (as it currently does).

I, as I said before, am neither for nor against implementing redraft but if it is implemented it has to be with fresh teams for everyone so doing so when the game evolves into the 2025 edition would be the sensible thing.

Now, some of us know when Cyanide aims to do so (but are not at liberty to say. And who knows if they make the target), so my suggestion is keep it as it is until whenever this happens and decide then as everyone will have to create new teams then anyway.

Says the 2500 tv orc team 😂

but yeah waiting is the best option giving that the only fair way to implement redraft is starting with new teams

LOL...you are right, but I would even say it with a 850 Ork Team..
