Scud
o-o After denying Hudd's lizzies until the 6th turn in the first half - and having to break limbs to encourage his skink to score, I felt the safe option was sending the Ogre ball carrier through the middle to hand off to the flanking snot, who carried it as far to the corner as he could, only to pass it back to the Ogre ball carrier when he finally caught up. Then, stall like a sod.Because nothing is safe with Ogres and luck rules them harder than.. something really.. hard. Like Mega Blue Pill Viagra (Hobnail knows what I mean) hard.Gah. Logain
Another thing about skill, i see i win more when i prepare my games. This can be done : * looking at my opponent's roster and think about what it could mean on tactics, * watch one or 2 of his game vs the same kind of team as mine, * think in advance about inducements he could have / i can take, * ask questions to fellow coaches, *... I know Narg did the above on one season and got a perfect record (9-0-0), and he couldn't prepare that well the season after and got wrecked (well getting a +2 divisions promotion didn't help either). Jakerbeef
Very good points by Hobs and Verbal. I only ever go in worrying about the dice. When it's a big game against a solid coach I do my homework and usually give them a tough game. Sometimes heartening to watch the opposition slowly crack as they come against someone not making simple mistakes. I'm usually good for one error a game though. However...I play very safe against good coaches and often get stung badly. Not by them, but the by the only thing that can dismantle solid play; the dice. The coaches I fear the most are the ones that are not afraid to gamble and know exactly when to gamble. Funny thing about five 6's. If it happens against you in TT you think "good rolls mate, well done". If it happens online...
Errant Saint
5 6s can happen but any coach that wants to roll those kind of dice when they don't need to is in my opinion an idiot. But it's so hard to defend against those dices I'd just as soon not bother. That's dodging into a cage with ag1, taking down the carrier on -3d, then picking up in TZ and dodging free. I think I'm a 'high risk' coach in a different way. I'll often give my opponents openings that I'm aware of, provided they then have to roll nutty dice to exploit them. But again, if things are desperate, then I won't hesitate to roll those 5 6s myself. Like was said, not only knowing what to do but when.
PaloLV
I try not to bait people into taking crazy risks. Too often they find ways I didn't expect to exploit the little gap into a giant hole they can walk through instead of being forced to do something crazy. straume
This is always a question of risk management isnt it? I mean, if you struggle to advance you might have to advance with higher risk; as in giving away a possible hit on the ball carrier. One would always not want this to happen, but sometimes (or quite often) you just have to do it. It is limited how long you can hang around at the midline.
